Websites for South African medical practices
Stryx Collective designs and builds websites for South African clinics and medical practices, from Salt Rock, Ballito. Healthcare is its second focus industry. HPCSA advertising rules and POPIA are raised at the start of every medical project, and clients work directly with founder Ryan Cumming.
Two sets of rules
A medical website in South Africa is not an ordinary business website. Two sets of rules apply to it.
South African practitioners must follow the HPCSA rules on advertising. Those rules affect what a practice website may say and how it says it.
Patient information falls under POPIA. That covers the details a patient enters into a contact form or an appointment request.
Stryx raises both at the start of a project, before the content is planned, so they shape the site instead of being fixed afterwards. Stryx can give guidelines on what a practice should look for and have in place. It makes no warranty that a website will be compliant, and practices should consult their own legal counsel.
Stryx gives practices guidance on the HPCSA advertising rules when planning and writing the site. The practitioner must still check the final rules with the HPCSA, because the responsibility stays with the practitioner.

POPIA and patient enquiries
Where Stryx hosts or looks after a practice website on a care plan, it acts as the practice's operator under POPIA. The operator contract is part of the service agreement. Clients can choose to host in the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom or South Africa. Most South African clients choose South Africa or Europe.
How patients find a practice
Patients usually search for a type of practitioner in a place, often on a phone using mobile data. Map results and reviews decide many of these searches, depending on the search and its intent, so the Google Business Profile matters alongside the website, and pages need to load quickly. Stryx's local SEO includes Google Business Profile work.
Who this suits
Healthcare is Stryx's second focus industry, after hospitality. Stryx is a specialist consultancy, and it suits an established clinic or practice that needs the website to produce patient enquiries. It is not a template package.
Clinic and practice websites are mostly built on WordPress, depending on the use case and need. Stryx has integrated booking systems such as Bookem with WordPress websites so clients can book online.
The practice approves clinical wording. Stryx can also research and write the copy, which the practice then verifies and signs off before it goes live.

Questions
Questions about Websites for South African medical practices
Can't see yours? Ask Ryan directly and you'll get a straight answer, usually the same day.
Ask on WhatsAppDoes Stryx make sure a practice website follows HPCSA advertising rules?
Stryx gives guidance on the HPCSA advertising rules when planning and writing the site. It makes no warranty that a website will be compliant, and practices should consult their own legal counsel. The practitioner must still check the final rules with the HPCSA, because the responsibility stays with the practitioner.
How does POPIA apply to a medical practice website?
Patient information falls under POPIA, including details entered into website forms. Where Stryx hosts or looks after the site on a care plan, it acts as the practice's operator, and the operator contract is part of the service agreement.
Can patients request appointments through the website?
Yes. Clinic and practice websites are mostly built on WordPress, depending on the use case and need, and can take appointment requests and forms. How patient details are handled is agreed at the start because of POPIA.
Does Stryx work with practices outside KwaZulu-Natal?
Yes. Stryx is based in Salt Rock, Ballito, and works remotely with practices across South Africa, in the same time zone.
How long does a website take to build?
A typical website project takes about 6 to 8 weeks. Complexity, and how quickly content and feedback come back, can make it shorter or longer.
Do you only build in WordPress?
No. WordPress is the usual recommendation for sites that need custom functionality such as bookings, reservations or forms. Where another platform fits better, such as Shopify for e-commerce, Stryx recommends that.
Who owns the website when it is finished?
You do. Once the project is paid in full, the website and the visual elements created for you are yours.
How does payment work?
50% is paid up front and secures your place in the work queue. The remaining 50% is paid before launch.
Will my site rank on Google?
Every site Stryx builds can be indexed by search engines at launch. Rankings depend on many factors and no one can honestly guarantee them. Ongoing SEO is a separate service.
Will I lose my Google rankings if I rebuild my site?
Old URLs are mapped to the new structure and redirected at launch, which keeps the search visibility the old site had earned.
How do I keep track of the project?
You get a login to a client portal where you can see the stage the project is at and any tasks waiting on you.
What happens after launch?
Bugs that existed before launch are fixed at no extra charge. Hosting, backups, updates and content changes are covered by a website care plan.
