Emergency WordPress Fixes

When a WordPress site goes down, shows an error or has been hacked, it needs fixing before anything else. Stryx Collective deals with a site that is completely down ahead of routine work. Care plan clients are restored from backup at no extra cost after a hack, and sites without a plan are fixed and billed by the hour.

Common WordPress emergencies

  • The site is down or shows a blank white page
  • "There has been a critical error on this website"
  • A plugin or WordPress update broke something
  • The site has been hacked, redirects to spam or shows warnings in Google
  • The checkout or booking form has stopped working
  • The site is suddenly very slow or keeps timing out
  • The domain or SSL certificate has expired

If you are on a care plan

On the Premium and Pro plans your site is monitored for downtime, so Stryx often knows about a problem before you do. A site that is completely down is dealt with ahead of routine requests.

  • A hacked site is restored from a clean backup at no extra cost, with no limit on the number of restores after a hack.
  • Up to two restores in any 30 days are included where the cause was user error.
  • If a plugin update causes a conflict, up to three hours of work to fix it is included.

If you are not on a care plan

Stryx can help fix a WordPress site it does not usually look after. The work is billed by the hour, and starts with getting the site back online, then finding the cause so it does not happen again. If there is no recent backup, recovery takes longer and some recent content may be lost, so the first step is always to find out what backups exist.

Once the site is stable, a care plan puts monitoring, backups and updates in place so the next emergency is less likely and quicker to fix.

Response times, honestly

Support hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 17:00 South African time. Stryx does not run a 24-hour emergency line. Within those hours, a site that is down comes first, and care plan clients are answered ahead of others.

How to report a problem

Email or WhatsApp with the site address, what you are seeing, and anything that changed just before it happened, such as an update, a new plugin or a change by another provider.

Questions

Questions about Emergency WordPress Fixes

Can't see yours? Ask Ryan directly and you'll get a straight answer, usually the same day.

Ask on WhatsApp
My WordPress site is down. What should I do?

Email or WhatsApp Stryx with the site address, what you are seeing and anything that changed just before. Avoid installing or removing plugins in the meantime, as that can make recovery harder.

Do you offer 24-hour emergency support?

No. Support hours are Monday to Friday, 8:00 to 17:00 South African time. Within those hours, a site that is down comes first.

Can you fix a site that is not on a care plan?

Yes. The work is billed by the hour and starts with getting the site back online.

Is fixing a hacked site included in a care plan?

Yes. On a care plan a hacked site is restored from backup at no extra cost, with no limit on the number of restores after a hack.

What does "There has been a critical error on this website" mean?

A PHP error has stopped WordPress from loading, usually caused by a plugin, a theme or an update. The cause can be found from the site's error logs.
