Website Migration Services

Stryx Collective moves websites to a new platform, page builder or host: for example another platform to WordPress, Elementor to Bricks, or one hosting provider to another. Content, URLs and tracking are mapped before anything moves, so the site keeps its search visibility and nothing goes missing on launch day.

Kinds of migration

  • Platform From a hosted builder or an older system to WordPress, or from WordPress to something else when that fits better.
  • Page builder From Elementor or another builder to Bricks.
  • Hosting The same site, moved to a different host.
  • Domain The same site on a new domain name.

Each carries different risks, and a project can involve more than one. The current site is audited first. If the site is built well, Stryx keeps it.

Why migrations lose rankings

Search engines rank individual URLs. When a site moves and its URLs change, every page the old site ranked with disappears unless something tells search engines where it went. That is how a new site that looks far better can lose a large share of its search traffic overnight.

The common causes:

  • Old URLs left with no redirect, so links and rankings land on error pages
  • Redirects that all point to the home page instead of the matching page
  • Content that ranked well cut or merged without a plan
  • The new site blocked from search engines by a setting left on from staging
  • Forms, analytics or ad tracking that stop recording, so nobody notices a drop until weeks later
  • Email that stops working after a DNS change

A migration plan exists to make sure none of that happens.

How Stryx plans a move

  • Inventory Every page, image, form, redirect and tracking tag on the current site is listed.
  • URL map Each existing URL is matched to its new address. Where the address changes, a redirect is set.
  • Build on staging The new site is built and checked while the current one stays live.
  • Email and DNS check DNS records are reviewed before the switch, so email keeps working.
  • The switch The move is a DNS change, made at a quiet time. The old site is kept until the new one has been checked.
  • After the switch Forms, tracking, redirects and Search Console are checked.

Keeping your rankings

  • Benchmark first Every URL, the pages that bring in traffic and enquiries, and the keywords the site ranks for are recorded before anything changes.
  • A redirect map Each old URL is matched to the most relevant page on the new site, early in the project, so the new structure is planned with the old one in mind. Nothing is sent to the home page just to have a target.
  • Keep what performs Pages that rank and convert keep their content, or have it improved.
  • Permanent redirects at launch Every old URL that changes is redirected to its match in one step.
  • Launch-day checks Indexing settings, the sitemap and structured data are checked, so the new site is open to search engines.
  • Submit and watch The new sitemap is submitted to Google, and Search Console is watched for errors in the weeks after launch.

When someone else is building the site

If another agency or your own developer is building the new site, Stryx can handle the SEO side of the move on its own: the benchmark, URL map, redirect list, launch checks and monitoring. See SEO consulting.

Moving builder is a rebuild

There is no dependable one-click conversion between page builders or platforms. Content can be carried across. The design is rebuilt. That is also a chance to fix what was not working, which is why many migrations are combined with a redesign.

Hosting moves

A hosting move changes where the site lives and nothing else. Stryx hosts and looks after sites on its website care plans, and moving your site across is part of joining one.

How it works

How a migration runs

  1. 01

    Inventory and benchmark

Pages, media, forms, redirects, tracking and DNS records, plus the URLs, rankings and conversions the site has now.

  2. 02

    Plan

A URL map, and the order in which things move.

  3. 03

    Build

The site is set up at its new home on staging.

  4. 04

    Check

Content, forms, tracking and redirects are tested.

  5. 05

    Switch

DNS is changed at a quiet time, with the old site kept in place.

  6. 06

    Monitor

The sitemap is submitted, and Search Console, rankings, analytics and email are watched after the move.

Questions

Questions about Website Migration Services

Can't see yours? Ask Ryan directly and you'll get a straight answer, usually the same day.

Ask on WhatsApp
Will my website go down during a migration?

The new site is built and tested first, and the switch is a DNS change made at a quiet time. The old site stays in place until the new one has been checked.

Will I lose my search rankings?

Every existing URL is mapped to its new address and redirected where it changes, which keeps the search visibility the site had earned.

Can you move just my hosting?

Yes. A hosting move changes where the site lives and leaves the site itself as it is.

Will my email be affected?

It can be if DNS is changed carelessly. DNS records are reviewed before the switch so that email keeps working.

Can you convert my site from one page builder to another?

Not automatically. The content is carried across and the design is rebuilt in the new builder.

What is a redirect map?

A list that matches every old URL to its new URL, so each one can be permanently redirected at launch.

Can I redirect everything to the home page?

No. Search engines treat that much like a missing page. Each old URL should go to the most relevant new page.

Can you handle the SEO side if someone else is building the site?

Yes. Stryx can provide the URL map, redirect list, launch checks and monitoring alongside another developer.

How long should I watch the site after launch?

Closely for the first few weeks, when most problems appear, and then as part of normal reporting.
