Google free booking links for lodges and villas
Google free booking links are unpaid links in Google's accommodation booking module. They show your own website's rate for the guest's dates and send the click to your booking page. Most properties need a verified Business Profile and a booking system that sends live rates to Google. Villas follow a separate, stricter route.

Google free booking links are unpaid links in Google's accommodation booking module. They show your own website's rate for the guest's dates and send the click to your booking page. Google charges nothing for the link or the click. To get one, most properties need a verified Business Profile and a booking system that sends live rates and availability to Google.
What a free booking link is
When someone searches for a property by name, or browses places to stay in Google Search or Google Maps, Google shows a booking module with rates from different sellers. Some of those rates are paid hotel ads. The rest are free booking links.
According to Google's Hotel Center documentation, a free booking link shows your site name or property name with the room rate for the selected dates, and takes the traveller to the landing page you supply. Google states that partners pay no fee for the links and nothing per click.
The order of the free links is not for sale. Google says it ranks them on signals such as consumer preference, the value offered to the user, the landing page experience and how accurate your prices have been in the past. Bids have no effect, and running hotel ads does not move a free link up or down.
Who can use them
Google treats accommodation as two groups, and the route is different for each.
Hotels, lodges, guest houses and B&Bs
Google's starter guide describes this group as commercial lodging with on-site guest services, such as hotels, motels, resort hotels, inns and hostels. A staffed lodge, guest house or country hotel would normally fit that description.
Two things are needed:
- A claimed, verified and complete Google Business Profile. On its own, this puts the property on Search and Maps without prices.
- Rates and availability sent to Google by a connectivity partner. Google lists central reservation systems, internet booking engines, channel managers and property management systems as partner types.
Google's guide for hotel owners says direct integration with Google is currently unavailable because of high demand. In practice the link comes through your booking engine or channel manager.
Google used to let hotels type rates into their Business Profile by hand. Its help pages now state that from 30 July 2025 a partner is needed to display rates on a Business Profile. If you set rates up by hand before that date, check whether your link still shows.
Villas and holiday rentals
Villas, apartments and holiday homes fall under a separate programme, vacation rentals on Google. Google says these listings are free, the booking links send travellers to your own website, and it charges no fees for the referrals or bookings.
The entry rules are narrower. Google's vacation rentals starter guide says you can list if you are a registered property management business with a direct booking website, or if you are already listed on a booking site that is integrated with vacation rentals on Google. Its overview adds that individually owned rentals are not currently eligible, and that shared rooms, partial houses and peer-to-peer rentals are excluded. Google reviews each application and may ask for proof of business credentials.
In plain terms:
- A villa management company with its own booking website, and software that connects to Google, can apply for links to its own site.
- A single owner-run villa will usually appear only through a platform it is listed on, if that platform is integrated.
How to set one up
- Claim and verify your Business Profile. Fill in the hotel details and check the category is right.
- Ask your booking engine, channel manager or property management system whether it is a Google connectivity partner and what it needs from you. Several systems used by South African and Caribbean properties state on their own websites that they connect to Google, including NightsBridge, Little Hotelier, Beds24 and Hostaway. Confirm the current position with your provider, because these arrangements change.
- Check where the link lands and what rate it shows. Google counts landing page experience and price accuracy when it ranks free links, so the rate on Google should match the rate the guest sees on arrival.
- If your provider is not integrated, Google's guide points you to its list of integrated partners so you can choose one that is.
- Set up measurement. Performance data sits in the Reports section of Hotel Center, and Google documents a landing page variable that lets your own analytics tell a free link click from an ad click.
Whether the booking itself can be traced back to that click depends on your booking engine. The article on booking engines for lodges and villas covers what to ask.
What free booking links will and will not do
- They put your direct rate next to the online travel agency rates at the moment a traveller decides where to book. If your direct rate is higher than the agency rate, the comparison works against you.
- They mostly help travellers who have already found your property. They do not replace the work of being found in the first place, which is covered in the hotel SEO guide.
- They are not guaranteed. Google says it tests where free links sit relative to paid links, and it can reject or end a partner's participation.

Frequently asked questions
Are Google free booking links really free?
Yes. Google's Hotel Center documentation states that partners pay no fee for free booking links and there is no cost for clicks. Your booking system or channel manager may charge for its own service, so check with your provider.
Can I add my rates to Google myself without a booking system?
Not any more, according to Google's help pages. Hotels could once enter rates by hand in their Business Profile, but Google states that from 30 July 2025 a partner is needed to display rates. Google's guide for hotel owners also says direct integration is currently unavailable.
Can a single privately owned villa get a free booking link?
Google's starter guide says individually owned rentals are not currently eligible to join vacation rentals on Google directly. A villa can still appear if it is listed on a booking site that is integrated with Google, or if it is managed by a registered property management business with a direct booking website.
Do I need to run Google hotel ads to get a free booking link?
No. Google says taking part in hotel ads has no effect on how free booking links rank, and bids do not influence them. Free links are ranked on signals such as value to the traveller, landing page experience and price accuracy.
