Headless & Astro Websites
A headless website separates the system where content is managed from the pages visitors see, which can make a site faster and reduce what there is to attack. Stryx Collective builds this way with Astro on Cloudflare when a project calls for it, and will tell you when a standard WordPress build is the simpler choice.
What headless means
On a traditional website, one system does everything: it stores the content, builds each page and sends it to the visitor. On a headless website those jobs are split. Content is managed in one place, and a separate front end turns it into pages.

What you gain
- Speed Pages are served from a network of locations close to the visitor, with very little code to load.
- Less to attack There is no public plugin stack to patch.
- Design freedom The front end is written for the site, with no page builder in between.
- Version history The site's code lives in version control, so every change is recorded and can be reversed.
What it costs
Headless is not better in every case, and the trade-offs are real.
- Fewer ready-made features Forms, bookings and shops that are a plugin on WordPress are development work here.
- No visual page builder Your team edits content in fields. New layouts need a developer.
- More development time for anything dynamic.
When it fits
- A content-heavy site where speed and search performance matter most
- A site with structured content and few dynamic features
- A team that edits content, and does not need to build pages
When it does not
If the site needs bookings, reservations, a shop or frequent layout changes by your own team, WordPress is usually the simpler and cheaper choice. Stryx will say so.
Headless WordPress
One option keeps WordPress as the place your team edits content, and replaces only the front end. That suits a team that knows WordPress and wants a faster site. It adds a second system to maintain, so it has to earn its place.
How Stryx builds

- A content management system chosen to suit the project and the people who will use it

Questions
Questions about Headless & Astro Websites
Can't see yours? Ask Ryan directly and you'll get a straight answer, usually the same day.
Ask on WhatsAppIs a headless website better for SEO?
Not by itself. It can make a site faster, which helps, but rankings still depend on the fundamentals: the right pages, built correctly, with content worth finding.
Can I still edit my own content?
Yes. Content is edited in a content management system. Changing a layout, or adding a new kind of section, needs a developer.
Is a headless website more expensive?
Often, for a site with dynamic features, because functionality that is a plugin on WordPress has to be built. For a content site with few features the difference is smaller.
Do I need a headless website?
Most business websites do not. It suits content-heavy sites where speed matters most and dynamic features are few.
What is Astro?
Astro is a framework for building websites that sends very little code to the visitor's browser, which keeps pages fast.
